Peter the Kitty; Oil on Board by Mrs Jackson
Acquired By Scott Wilson from Salvation Army Thrift Store, Hyde Park MA
Stirring in its portayal of feline angst. Is Peter hungry or contemplating his place in a hungry world? The artist has evoked both hopelessness and glee with this irrational use of negative space.
From “The Museum Of Bad Art: Art Too Bad To Be Ignored” by Tom Stankowicz and Marie Jackson;used with permission of MOBA, www.MuseumOfBadArt.org
We couldn't decide, so we picked two themes for ISSUE 19: NO CUTE PETS and VELVET ELVIS: BAD ART
NO CUTE PETS: We are looking for poems that explore our relationships with animals. Animals should not simply be metaphors or symbols, but creatures of this world.
Empathy, intelligence, moments of understanding, Yes. A deceased Fluffy or Muffy waiting patiently for you at the Rainbow Bridge leading to Heaven – NO.
So-called anthropomorphism allowed –do we really understand the distinctions between human behavior and that of other animals?
VELVET ELVIS: BAD ART. Someone makes it. Someone buys it. Does it inspire you - to nausea or to poetry?
Send us your appreciations, thoughts, rants, run-on phrases and descriptions of the world of Velvet Elvis. Even better - send us a poem and an image of the inspiring art work!
